Environmental Sustainability

Environmental sustainability is a key priority of the students’ union within the framework of our strategic vision.

We are committed to delivering excellent student activities and campaigns that improve the student experience at Lancaster. In doing this, we must not lose sight of our environmental impact and responsibilities to sustainability.

We must continue to ensure that we embed sustainability in all aspects of our activities and operations. We will continue to champion student-led initiatives focusing on how we can improve our practices and empower grass-roots activism to improve the union, the university and the local community.

Collaboration

Collaboration is key success on the environmental sustainability agenda. Your students’ union contributes student-led projects and campaigns to the shared ‘Green Lancaster’ initiative at Lancaster University.

As an affiliated member of the National Union of Students, we work closely with the NUS Sustainability team in order to both contribute to and learn from a national best practice in sustainability engagement in the sector. The students’ union takes part in the NUS Student Eats, Student Switch Off and Green Impact programmes.

In 2018-19, we achieved Green Impact ‘Very Good’ standard in recognition of our environmental sustainability achievements and have an action plan to enhance our performance in 2018-19. In association with Lancaster University, we are also a member of Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges and have contributed to institutional success in the Green Gown Awards.
