Some of our societies need your support to continue running at their best. These groups have been struggling to recruit an executive committee this year, and need your help to remain a society. You could help support these societies by joining any one of these groups as either a member, or as a member of the committee.

SCAN Lancaster
- Student Comment and News (SCAN) was established in 1967, making it one of the longest-running student publications in Europe.
- It is a paper run by students for students. It is your space to write about the topics and issues you feel strongly about!
- We publish a print issue every term and have opportunities for you to get involved as a writer, photographer, editor, illustrator and much more.
- We are an award-winning paper! Being shortlisted for Best News Story at the SPA (Student Publication Awards) in 2019 and being shortlisted for Best Publication at SPA in 2021. In 2023, we won 2nd Best Sport Section in the whole UK and Northern Ireland!

LU Entrepreneurship Society
- Our mission is to inspire students to see the potential in entrepreneurship and to teach them about the fundamentals of the business start-up process. We do so by engaging successful entrepreneurs with our society’s events, as well as by arranging challenging business games and competitions. Lancaster University Entrepreneurship Society is a place where fellow students can come together as a community.
- In this community, there are possibilities to not only share your potential business ideas but also to improve and realise them through workshops, competitions and speakers.

Lancaster STAR
- Lancaster STAR (Student Action for Refugees) is a society dedicated to supporting refugees and asylum seekers both locally and nationally by working with local NGO's, the STAR network and our members!
- Our aim is to raise awareness, provide practical support, and advocate for positive change in refugee rights and welfare.
- Lancaster STAR works under STAR's umbrella, who operates as a national network of students all campaigning for the same goal. With STAR you have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact through our campus and beyond.

Lancaster Labour Club
- Lancaster University Labour Club is the largest political society on campus, guided by underlying principles of equality, collectivism, social justice, unity, and tolerance, and we seek to provide a welcoming space for all.
- We host weekly meetings to discuss and debate various exciting topics, along with regular socials and events including our very popular presentation evenings. Together we have won many elections including a council by-election in the university ward in November 2021, and getting a councillor elected in the recent city council elections.
- We have close ties with the local Labour Party, the UCU, and other groups across Lancaster.

Pro Wrestling
- LUPW is Lancaster University's Pro Wrestling fan society. We welcome all fans of any kind of wrestling, be it WWE, AEW, Impact, ROH, NJPW or any of the hundreds of indie companies around the world.
- As a society, we host weekly meetings on Wednesday evenings where we do various activities such as quizzes, gaming, themed watch parties, movie nights, and more. Outside of our meetings we also run various socials, such as PPV screenings, nights out, predictions contests, discussions on weekly events, and, of course, trips to wrestling shows. For LUPW members only there is an exclusive discount on tickets for local wrestling company, Odyssey Pro Wrestling.
- LUPW is a small, friendly, inclusive society where you can make friends and share your love of the sport. Whether you're a diehard enthusiast or simply a casual fan, a fresher or a PhD student, all are welcome!

Salsa Society
- Lancaster Salsa society offers some amazing opportunities to dance! Whether you want to dance with your friend/partner or meet new people, you can do it with us! We make sure that everyone learns during our classes and have a lot of time to practice in a pair (that's why we switch partners every couple of minutes!). We give you an opportunity to engage in an amazing dance with a teacher and to use your university time to its fullest!
- With a membership, you will have access to at least 2 lessons per week from professional teachers plus any other classes and socials we host exclusively for our society.
- Everyone is welcome to our society, whether you have danced for years or never danced at all.

Lancaster Hip-Hop & Breakdance

We are Lancaster University's official Hip Hop and Breakdance Society! We teach street dance, breakdance, popping, locking, vogue, commercial, etc. We also hold regular workshops and collaborate with other societies. Classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday with workshops every three weeks.

All the members come from different backgrounds and are all strangers turned friends through dancing, so don't hesitate to join the family!

Every year we take part in the GHGH (Go Hard or Go Home) UK dance competition and you can audition to become the competition team member. We additionally offer great opportunities to perform for various events held on campus. We always look forward to welcoming new members!

- We are a low-commitment, flexible society and encourage as many people to come along. Our society is free to join, and we welcome all who love musical theatre!
- In our sessions we try to incorporate a variety of singing, acting, dancing, games and more into our sessions. Whether it's blind karaoke, guess the song, or learning choreography, there's something for you!

- Lancaster University's official society for Swifities!
- Celebrate your love of Taylor Swift through socials including karaoke nights, club nights, bracelet making and more.
- We host an annual 'Lover Ball' for Valentine's Day.
- SwiftSoc were the Winners of Exec Committee of the Year at the LUSU Society Awards 2022.

LU Lego

LULEGO is the society for fans of everything Lego, Lego Games & Stop-motion Animation. Since the accidental creation of the Lego brick in 1958, Lego has created endless imaginative joy for people of all ages. The beauty of Lego is wherever you are from, or whatever language you speak, you will know and enjoy building with the bricks.

As a society we meet every Tuesday at 7pm in Faraday SR1 to host sessions for members to create whatever they want with our Lego collection. We have themed events each week such as building competitions, Lego games, group build and stop-motion animation.

One of the best things about Lego is the massive number of brands that now have Lego sets. For this reason, we love to collaborate with other societies to really allow everyone to enjoy Lego.

Defying Dementia

Defying Dementia is a campaign founded at the university; to support research into drugs and development relating to dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases. Our society works to support this campaign by hosting various fundraising events.

Another of our aims is to make a more Dementia friendly campus by offering Dementia Friends sessions in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Society. We also offer several volunteering opportunities including the Bay Dementia Hub, Defying Dementia Charity Shop, Join Dementia Research (JDR), and the chance to volunteer within the Dementia ward at Lancaster hospital.

Our volunteering opportunities are a fantastic way to gain experience and to try your hand at something you may not have previously had a chance to, while working with world-leading researchers for an incredible cause.

Our society is also the proud winner of the LUSU Fundraising and Volunteering Award 2022 and our previous President, Ffion won the LUSU Lasting Impact Award 2023 for her work with the Defying Dementia Student Society.

LU Swing Dance
- Swing is an umbrella term for a collection of Black American dances, danced to swing music, from the 1920s to 1940s. There are a variety of dances and at LUSwing, we mostly focus on Lindy Hop, an improvised partner dance which originated in the Black community of late 1920s Harlem, New York.
- Inclusivity, acceptance and mutual respect are at the very core of Swing Dance. It is vital that we recognise the cultural context of Swing and acknowledge its black creators so that we may sustain the values of those to whom we owe so much and continue to promote a diverse, multicultural community welcome to all.
- As part of the society, you’ll be exposed to the culture and music of the swing era with live bands, social dance events and even weekend excursions in other scenes across the country! The swing dance community is a world-wide community that is incredibly friendly and welcoming.

LU Bells - Bellydancing Society

LUBells is a small society which offers weekly bellydance lessons with an experienced teacher as well as fun socials and performance opportunities.

Our lessons are open to dancers of all abilities and don't require any special clothes or equipment, so just wear something comfortable that you are able to shimmy in! Since belly dance is a low-impact yet dynamic style of dance, it is a great way to keep fit, improving core strength, muscle tone and flexibility whilst being easily adaptable to accomodate any accessability needs.

Each term, we introduce new belly dance styles, music and props to master in time for various performances throughout the year. Performing is completely optional but its a great opportunity to get dressed up (in gorgeous costumes provided by the society), show off your moves and take some brilliant photos!

Hindu Society

Lancaster University Hindu Society is affiliated with the National Hindu Students Forum (UK). We aim to raise cultural awareness and provide for the local community.

- The 93% Club was founded at the University of Bristol in 2016 and has since expanded to become the UK’s largest social mobility network for students across 45+ universities.
- We exist because 93% of the UK population go to state schools, yet state-educated professionals only make up… 35% of Senior Judges, 43% of the House of Lords, 56% of Journalists, 48% of Junior Ministers, 34% of FTSE 350 CEOs, 41% of Permanent Secretaries. It’s time to close the gap.
- Joining The 93% Club enables you to attend all of our events and become part of our movement. We provide our members with professional development and soft skill workshops, speaker events, networking opportunities, educational resources and a social space to connect with like-minded students.
- Our aim is to equip our members with the personal and professional skills they need to make meaningful, informed career choices and get the most out of their time at university. By creating a space for these students to share their experiences, concerns, questions and resources, The 93% Club aims to ensure that all students, regardless of their educational background, have the same positive academic and social experiences. Lancaster University Barnardo’s Society offers a fun way to get involved in charitable activities during your time at university. Our main focus is on organising events that raise both money and awareness for the well-known children's charity Barnardo's, whilst also holding a variety of fun socials throughout the year.

- Life is like roller skating – sometimes you just have to roll with it! So roll with the Roller-skating society this year as we have many exciting events in store
- Join a community of roller-skaters and roller-bladers, where we are all for everything skating related. Whether you have skates or are interested in trying out a new hobby, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the committee through our social media pages.
- We aim to host a variation of socials, alongside regular roller disco and indoor roller-skating lessons.

Wildlife & Conservation Society

The natural world around us is full of wonder - and Lancaster campus is no different! Join us in learning about the wildlife that can be found on and around campus, and help us make efforts to protect it. Whether you're working your way through an extensive list of lifers or are just wondering what's out there, we cater for any level of knowledge with a range of accessible activities and events.

We aim to hold one event each week, although times and dates are variable due to weather constraints. We also try to organise a mixture of indoor and outdoor events throughout the year. Examples of events include: Birdwatching trips (e.g. to RSPB Leighton Moss); Moth trap mornings; Species identification workshops; Chill walks; socials and quizzes; and Reviewing trail camera footage.
