🌳 Forrest Hills: Forest of the Future 

Help grow a space where nature thrives! Since 2018, students have been transforming old farmland and a golf course into a vibrant, biodiverse haven. This hands-on project supports: 

  • 🌿 Carbon sequestration 
  • 🐞 Boosting biodiversity 
  • 💧 Natural Flood Management 
  • 🤝 Community connection 

Be part of creating something that will last for generations. 

 

🥾 Adventures

Explore stunning local and regional landscapes and get hands-on with real sustainability projects. Each adventure is different—but all are rooted in action, connection, and learning. 

We dive into themes like food systems, climate justice, waste reduction, and nature restoration.

🐝 ECOWild Volunteering 

Get your hands dirty (in the best way)! Help biodiversity thrive on campus through ECOWild sessions. We: 

  • Plant native wildflowers 🌼 
  • Remove invasive species 🛠️ 
  • Plant trees 🌳 

No experience needed—we provide everything: gloves, wellies, waterproofs, and good vibes. 

 

🎤 Climate Conference 

A night of ideas, action, and student power! This annual event brings students together for workshops, external speakers, and roundtable discussions on the future of sustainability at Lancaster. 

We gather your views and create a Student Sustainability Report, shared directly with the university. 

 

Top student demands in 2025 included: 

  • Expanding “Don’t Ditch It, Donate It” 
  • More affordable plant-based food on campus 
  • A sustainability induction for all new students 
  • Greater support for grassroots groups 
  • Rewilding the campus & Forrest Hills

⚡ ECOChallenge 

Take on a 48-hour sprint of creativity and collaboration! The ECOChallenge brings students together to tackle real-world environmental challenges with fresh thinking and bold ideas. 

You’ll gain skills, build a team, and spark solutions that could change the world—or at least the campus!

Celebrate sustainable living with fun, hands-on experiences based around seasonal festivies. From upcycling to climate chats, there’s something for everyone.

A permanent clothes swap located on the SU ground floor! 

  • Swap 1 clean, unbroken item for 1 item 
  • Includes clothes, accessories, and costume pieces 
  • Reduce fashion waste and refresh your style sustainably 

 

🧵 Sewing Repair Cafés 

Broken zip? Torn hem? No problem! Fix or upcycle your clothes with help from the Sewing Café Lancaster crew. 

  • Use our sewing machines and tools

🍵 SustainabiliTEA & Chat 

Grab a cuppa and join a relaxed, inclusive space to chat about the world’s biggest issues—from ethical finance to food systems. No lectures, just shared learning, questions, and good company.

Want to dig deeper? Join a society that shares your passion. Whether you're into growing veg at the ECOHub, campaigning for climate action, or running events—there’s a space for you.
