Last week, I joined a gang of almost 40 sustainability educators and colleagues of the Morecambe Bay Curriculum Team in a visit to Eden Project Cornwall to hear what Eden Project Morecambe will mean for Morecambe and the North-West.

In Winter 2028, Eden Project Morecambe will open its doors for the first time, engaging people of all ages with the natural world, so they can better understand their place within it and play their part in shaping a sustainable future.

The £100 million regeneration and climate education project will transform the seafront of Morecambe Bay into a world-class destination for visitors and learning. I was particularly excited to hear about potential opportunities for young people and students at Lancaster when its doors open in 2028.

We met with Sarah Peake, Head of Content Curation, who showed us incredibly exciting and detailed plans for the Morecambe Bay site. The site will have 2 biomes: the Realm of the Moon – highlighting the inter-tidal beauty of Morecambe Bay through an immersive and dynamic experience – and the Realm of the Sun – a lush, tropical biome, providing a futuristic look on what can be achieved if we take positive action now.

While we were there, we also met with the Eden Education Team to learn more about their education offer and provided feedback on how we think an educational offer should look from early years to higher education, including SEND and Alternative Provision.

What will stay with me the most from this experience of the hope and passion of the Eden Team, Morecambe Bay Curriculum team and associated colleagues to make genuine change for the planet and to improve the lives of people in our local community.
