Humans of Lancaster is a new project sharing the wonderful work of inspiring individuals during these challenging times. 

NIK MARSDEN

Nik has been working in the local community establishing critical projects to ensure that young people don’t face any barriers and feel supported through these difficult times.

He has been working hard to ensure education problems that already exist in the Lancaster and Morecambe area don’t get worse and has also be working hard to keep Lancaster students who are interested in doing a PGCE continue getting the vital experience they need for their CVs.

He’s been working to secure funding to ensure young people who don’t have laptops/iPads at home can access this resource without any financial burden so they can continue to study at home. This in linked with the university’s ISS team implementing more WiFi hot spots.

He has been working tirelessly to introduce digital mentoring and tutoring for young people with the aspiration that this may continue in the future as well as face to face tutoring.

He has gone around the campus and collated physical resources so over 5,000 packs could be distributed to families in need of vital supplies to teach their children at home. Packs contained pens, pencils, paper, notepads as he identified when families are struggling to purchase food and relying on foodbanks, the don’t have spare money to purchase educational items.

Despite the challenges, he has collated items that can be donated to the local food banks from the students’ union office and ensure sanitary products were also donated.

Nik has always worked to make some good change for those who need it the most and works to make sure no one struggles with barriers so we all have the same opportunities.

He has made an immeasurable impact to the local community and the lives of young people.

Whilst doing all this…he’s got a distinction in his first year of masters and we’re so proud of him!
