Jack is the Vice President Sport at LUSU. You can read more about him and get in touch here.

We asked your Vice President Sport, two-time American Football President, Roses Committee veteran and give it a go LEC netballer, Jack, for his top five things that you need to know about sport at Lancaster University. Here's what he had to say:

#1: Lancaster offers one of the most diverse ranges of sport activity in the North-West

You have so much to choose from both in the number of sports we have available and the range of levels with opportunities for everyone from the just for fun first-timer to the national pro. Whether it be picking up some American Football pads for the first time ever or returning to the swimming pool as you have done at home, if you can think of it, the likelihood is, you can do it!

#2: Don't miss the free taster sessions throughout Freshers' Week

During Freshers' Week, each sports team will offer a free taster session for you to try out their sport. I'd recommend you fill up your free time testing and sampling each sport that interests you. You never know, you might just fall in love with something you've never heard of, like Korfball!

#3: Our collegiate system offers one of the cheapest recreational sports leagues in the country

As well as nationally competitive BUCS sports, we also offer one of the cheapest recreational sports leagues in the country through our colleges so get your college pride on. Football, Netball and Bar Sports all have their own inter-collegiate leagues. Football and Netball compete all the way up to our Roses Divisions where teams battle it out for their place in the prestigious Roses Varsity.

#4: We are home to the largest University varsity competition in Europe

Talking of Roses, this is usually the first thing mentioned when talking about sport at Lancaster. Our varsity competition versus the University of York is the largest inter-university varsity competition in Europe and boasts a weekend of tough competition, fierce rivalry, and a hell of a lot of fun. Look no further than this aftermovie of the last time we hosted (and won) the competition in 2022...

#5: None of it would exist without the work of your Students' Union and Sport Lancaster teams

Sport would not exist at Lancaster without the dedicated and tireless work of the Students' Union and Sport Lancaster teams. Our Students' Union Sports staff team, facilitated by the Sports Centre, deliver every sports tournament, competitive fixture and rivalry throughout the year. They provide Turn up and Play sessions for complete beginners right through to fierce BUCS tournaments at the highest level.
