What you need to know about CTP so far
The Curriculum Transformation Programme (CTP) has been a long-running project with the direct aim of improving and updating the curriculum at Lancaster University.
Following the meeting of University Senate on the 11th February, certain parts of CTP have been postponed for after the 2026/27 academic year. More information about this can be found in this article.
Despite this, core parts of CTP are set to be implemented next Academic Year (2026/27). It is only applicable to Undergraduate and taught master’s programmes.
What your School/Department should be telling you about CTP?
With change abound, your school/department should soon be reaching out to you regarding any changes which may affect you in the upcoming academic year (2026/27) and beyond.
This can via a few different means such as a presentation, however every department is required to send students an email detailing what to expect next year.
All schools/departments have been provided with an CTP comms toolkit – a guide for departments to help aid in communicating such changes.
From this, such communications should cover the following:
A quick recap: Going through what CTP is, when it will be implemented, and who it will apply to.
University wide changes: What will change for student across the University from 2026/27 and won’t change for continuing students in 2026/27
Updates to your programme: Many things in your programme won’t change. However, your School/Department should summarise any changes to the programme itself. For example, the way it is delivered, and any rationale for such changes.
This will also be the same for any potential changes to assessments regarding methods or volume.
Likewise, any changes to programme structure and range of available core and optional modules will be communicated, as well as rationale for such changes. Any clarifications regarding arrangements in place to allow students to progress to any new structure should be outlined.
What next: They should circulate any information, encourage students to ask questions, and outline, if possible, module enrollment dates.
What does this mean for you?
It is important that departments send clear communications to students regarding any upcoming changes impacted by CTP. If you feel that your school/department has not communicated all or any of the information as outlined above, or there are still any unanswered questions, it is important to reach out to your Academic Reps and departments.
For Academic Reps:
It is important to encourage your department to reach out to students directly to your school/department about these changes. As academic reps there are a couple way you can ensure the information is reaching all students:
If you think there are clear gaps in your department's communications, please reach out to your department. If issues persist, please reach out to Liz (LUSU Education Officer).
