Interested in participating in ECOChallenge 2026? 4 students who took part in last year's competition tell you why you should take part in this year’s edition!

Ruby Moss - Conservation and Biodiversity MSc Student, BSc Biology Graduate, LUSU Sustainability Committee Member, and part of last year’s winning Furness Team said:
"I competed in ECOChallenge for 3 years in a row during my undergraduate degree, and it was a highlight of my time and experience here at Lancaster! Through ECOChallenge I gained invaluable team building and communication skills, as well as the opportunity to create and present a solution to a sustainable issue on campus. I would recommend ECOChallenge to all students who have a passion for sustainability and creating positive, lasting changes on campus!"

Maria-Aliza Zarras, LLB Undergraduate, and part of last year’s People’s Choice Winning Cartmel x County Team said:
"The LUSU ECOChallenge was brilliantly organised and kept me thinking and talking the whole time - it's a fantastic opportunity to meet people, boost your networking skills, and show off your public speaking skills. If you want to find the next big thing to put on your CV, then this is the place to do so. Through rehearsing our speeches to getting free food, the experience is worth it!"

Mehul Khairnar, MBA Graduate (now working as a Business Consultant at Blackmont Consulting), and part of last year’s Graduate ‘A’ Team said:
"Participating in the ECOChallenge was a fantastic way to turn theoretical knowledge into tangible action across a variety of SDGs. I particularly enjoyed the collaborative, interdisciplinary work with colleagues from different disciplines, and the discussions with my mentor were invaluable for helping me deep-dive into our project's complexities. It significantly pushed my creative problem-solving and project management skills, and I would absolutely recommend it to any student looking to make a real-world impact.”

Jasmine Hough, LLB Undergraduate, and part of last year’s 3rd place Fylde x Grizedale Team said:
"Participating in ECOChallenge was a last-minute decision, however it’s a decision I am definitely grateful I made.
I truly can't recommend ECOChallenge enough. While my degree is unrelated to ECOChallenge, the core skills I developed are directly applicable. I learned a ton about sustainability in the process of completing the final project and also developed crucial skills in project/time management and cross-disciplinary teamwork, while making great friends in the process."
