The Full-Time Officers (FTOs) support the UCU strike action taking place on the 24th, 25th and 30th of November because we believe that staff’s working conditions are our learning conditions. It is important to us that Lancaster delivers a world-class education which can only be achieved when staff are treated fairly with regards to their pay and working conditions.
We share students’ concerns that our previous response wasn’t good enough and would like to apologise for not publicly sharing our stance sooner. Moving forward, the FTOs have come together this afternoon to discuss how we can make sure that we communicate more effectively as a team and share our values with students and other stakeholders.
We call on the University to engage in fresh negotiations with the UCU and other relevant governing bodies on low pay, casualisation, workload and inequality. We are extending an offer of support to students who would also like to lobby the University in writing to the Vice Chancellor for better pay and working conditions.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. For specific support, please contact SU Advice on lusuadvice@lancaster.ac.uk, who will be able to support you with a range of academic issues.
