What is the new Sport Pass system?
From 2025/26 onwards, sport passes will be digital. So instead of a physical plastic card, your pass will now live in the iLancaster app – easy to access, harder to lose, and always with you.
Why have these changes been made?
We’ve made these updates based on student feedback to improve student experience. The new system is:
• More convenient – your pass is on your phone!
• Faster – no more waiting around to collect your physical card.
• Greener – reduces single-use plastic.
• Streamlined – makes access quicker and easier across the board.
Has anything changed in how Sport Passes work?
The general process remains the same, with students participating in Red, Purple, or Teal level activities still needing to purchase their sport pass through the Sports Centre. However, instead of receiving a physical card, a digital badge will appear in your iLancaster app once your pass is active.
Can I still get a Sport Pass included in my gym membership?
Yep! Sport passes can still be added onto any 9- or 12-month gym memberships. All you need to do is head down to the sport centre reception and tell them which pass you require – this step is important, as they won’t just assume you need one!
How much will the sport passes cost for the 2025/26 academic year?
RED Pass - £74.36
PURPLE Pass - £46.80
TEAL Pass - £10.40 OR £26
How does this help on match days?
On match days, simply open your iLancaster app and show your digital sport pass badge to access the Sports Centre or confirm your eligibility! This means no more scrambling for lost cards or worrying about forgetting them at home.
*Note for BUCS athletes - while your digital sport pass will get you into facilities, you may still need to carry your physical university ID card on game days to allow opposition teams to complete team sheet checks in line with BUCS regulations.
Where can I find my digital sport pass?
Once you’ve purchased your pass and it’s been processed, open the iLancaster app, head to the digital pass area and your sport pass badge will be displayed there.
How soon will my pass show in the iLancaster app?
Once this has been processed at the sport centre, we aim to get everyone uploaded within 2-3 working days. Keep an eye out on your app - you may need to log out and log back in to the app for your badge to show when first processed.
What if I have issues accessing my digital sport pass?
If you can’t see your pass or are having trouble with the app, make sure your app is updated, or try logging out and back in. If the issue continues, contact the LUSU Sport team.
What if I change activities or need to upgrade my pass?
No problem! Any changes to your access level will automatically update in the app once processed at the Sports Centre.
