Freshers’ Week has passed for another year and Michaelmas term is now in full swing. After three months of summer vacation and countless hours of preparation, campus burst to life over nine days of Freshers’ Week.

 

 

We would like to send the biggest thanks to our hundreds of student leaders and volunteers who make our Lancaster welcome so special, particularly the College JCR Execs and Welcome Reps at the very heart of our college communities and welcome experience. Thanks also go to our teams of passionate and full-time staff who worked day and night to put on a great show across the whole organisation and especially to our teams in Events and at the Sugarhouse delivering their biggest weeks of the year.

Here’s a rewind in numbers of just some of what we were able to achieve for Freshers’ 2023:

🚗 Thousands of horns honked at our Welcome Reps on the traditional Arrivals Roundabout

🎉 Over 170 events delivered by college JCRs and student groups throughout the week from guide dogs to golfing

💻 5,272 times that you visited our brand-new Freshers’ events website

🍕 Over 7,000 visits to our annual Freshers’ Fair where you ate 10,656 slices of Domino’s pizza, spun the GDK wheel 1,153 times and pedal-powered over 400 smoothies with Advice

🎪 At the Fair, you visited 219 stalls inside, 15 stalls outside, 187 clubs and societies and 11 furry friends at the petting zoo

🍎 You made 7,371 purchases at the LUSU Shop near Grizedale Bar

🏡 354 students collected their keys to their new student home with SU Living

🕺🏾 10,409 visits were made to the Sugarhouse with 5,792 bottles of VK sold at the bar

🍻 Two Big Nights On campus with 2,560 students touring the college bars over two days

🌳 Over 1,500 transactions made at the Green Lancaster ECOShop

The Freshers’ fun doesn’t stop here. This is just the beginning and your SU will continue to have your back and make your student experience the best it possibly can be including events for Black History Month, our first ever Roller Disco and activities from your clubs, societies and student groups continuing all year round.
