LUSU Union Assembly Statement on UCU Strikes

Wednesday 01-02-2023 - 12:54

On Tuesday 31st January 2023, Lancaster University Students’ Union’s Union Assembly met to discuss the upcoming strikes affecting the University.

Following a ballot, and as part of a national dispute over pay and pensions, the University and College Union (UCU) have called on their members to take strike action throughout February and March.

The first day of the planned 18 days of strike action is due to take place on Wednesday 1st February. The final scheduled strike day is Wednesday 22nd March. No further days of strike action are planned, though UCU members may also participate in “action short of a strike”.

You may or may not be told by your lecturer if they intend to strike. Not all academic staff are members of UCU nor taking strike action.

•          Union Assembly recognises the difficult financial position that the striking members of our Students’ Union are placed in by 18 days of strikes.
