Candidate Questions 2024

When: Monday 4th March 2024, 6pm – 10pm

Where: Private Dining Room, County South (MazeMap)

Candidate Questions is a key part of the Students’ Union’s elections.

Every year since the establishment of LUSU (57 years ago), students have had the chance to ask election candidates questions before voting in our annual elections. As well as the BailriggFM & LA1TV interviews; coverage by SCAN; hustings events within clubs, societies, and JCRs; and candidates’ own campaigns – the Candidate Questions event is an opportunity to hear from candidates and find out more about their candidacy.

This year, LUSU is delivering Candidate Questions in collaboration with Politics Society to deliver a bigger, better, and more interesting event. Politics Society are bringing their expertise in political debate to help ensure you get to hear what the candidates really think. The event is also being broadcast live on BailriggFM and streamed online by LA1TV.

We will be running through all Full-Time Officer and Liberation & Campaign Officers up for election this term:

  • Women+ Students’ Officer
  • Students with Disabilities Officer
  • International Students’ Officer
  • Wellbeing Officer
  • Education Officer
  • Activities Officer
  • President

Each debate will follow a set structure:

  1. Each candidate will make a 90 second speech to introduce themselves and explain their priorities.
  2. Each candidate will have the opportunity to ask their competitors a question.
  3. Questions are taken from attendees and from the pre-submission form. This year we are going to take questions for all candidates or directed to an individual. If you would like to pre-submit a question, submit it here.

We take pride in making Candidate Questions a full accessible event, all debates will be interpreted by a professional BSL interpreter.

We would love to see you there: 6pm on Monday 4th March in the Private Dining Room, County South.

It’s an interesting and unique event on-campus. You don’t want to miss it!
