Lancaster University has strong commitments on climate and the environment - a pledge for net-zero, divesting from fossil fuels and investing tens of millions in renewable projects. We thought it was only right that the many environmental societies and campaigns had the opportunity to showcase the inspiring and varied work they are doing on campus.
The fair kicked off with rapid-fire presentations from various student-led groups, each sharing their initiatives and goals for the upcoming year. Groups included Plant-Based Universities Lancaster, Fossil Free Careers and Edible Campus, among many others which are listed below.
Following the presentations, we then broke out into different groups across the LEC Atrium where each society and campaign delivered a fun interactive activity for students to have a taster of their society or campaign. Activities included making your own oat milk, visioning a world without fossil fuels, decorating moths and butterflies, and discussing which of 4 dino characters made the greatest contribution to fighting climate change.

We learnt about some of the best routes for cycling in Lancaster (and why an A6 bike lane would be so beneficial!), the variety of fruit and veg being grown down at the Eco Hub, and how environmentally minded students can have fun, play netball and make friends.
We enjoyed free plant-based food, from mac and cheese and onion bhaji sandwiches, to rocky roads and brownies. The University Catering team will soon be rolling out some of these dishes on their menus, and we strongly recommend them!
