Rhiannon Jones

President of the students’ union, representing students and leading various campaigns to improve the Lancaster experience for students.  

I’m Rhiannon, a biomedical science graduate serving my second term in office as your SU President. 

In my first year I was President of the County College, I have been a member of Lancaster Roses cheerleading society and I’m the founder and former President of the First Aid society. 

My priorities for this year are:

Postgraduates
- Adapt the union so that it can better represent postgraduates
- Promote a greater research culture within all faculties 
- Build a stronger relationship with UCU
- Further information for students who are new to both the university and the city through better pre-arrivals information
- Empower postgraduate taught students to have more of a say on their course design

Welfare and Community
- Build on Lancaster's Green reputation
- Help students develop skills to manage work-life balance
- Campaign for further mental health funding and support
- Improve signposting to welfare services on offer
- Improve our relationship with the City and County Council

Cost of Living
- Expand the accommodation bundling offer
- Provide further offers through the Purple Card
- Provide budgeting tips and advice
- Provide clear information on all mandatory costs associated with university life 
- Ensure our voices are heard in the national debate on tuition fees

Academic, extracurricular & employability 
- Diversify volunteering opportunities and career events available
- Improve the university's feedback and submission policy
- Increase access to study spaces on campus
- Make gym memberships more flexible
- Improve the union minibus hire system

Governance & transparency 
- Re-evaluate the 2015/16 SU constitutional review
- Better utilise social media platforms for two-way communication 
- Better support the JCR Execs & PG Board
- Ensure students are aware of the full range of services the union has to offer
- Promote the distinct roles of the union, university and the colleges
